The Journey To Startup Grind- Preparation day
As you may already know, CureApp made it into the Top 50 at Startup Grind's Global Conference 2018. To kick off our posts about our journey, we thought we might touch on the "Preparation day”
First
and foremost if you don't know anything about Startup Grind's Global
Conference, check it out Here. As part of this
conference, Startup Grind accepted globally applications from startups who are
doing Av-ant grind things in overall tech. Before we could apply, there were a
few questions we felt we should to answer and a comprehensive research we
needed to do.
What type of company we are :
CureApp
is a leading digital health company in the vertical of “medical apps exhibiting
therapeutic effects against diseases”, and in Feb 2015 launched “Ascure”, a
nicotine addiction treatment app jointly developed with Keio University’s
Schools of Medicine. Currently
conducting the first official medical app clinical trial on the same indication
in Japan on 580 patients as well as developing a pipeline of therapeutic
products for diseases including NASH and hypertension.
What is our Next steps for Global Expansion :
CureApp
got enormous traction, momentum in Japan ( Bloomberg, Nikkei Asia, Tech In Asia)
but Our plan for growth doesn't necessarily demand an incursion of cash, however
with one, we'd be able to hit our targets faster
After
we successfully answered the above, we needed to pick our conference carefully.
As a startup company there are many conferences and pitch contests, and if
you're not careful, it's easy to fall into the trap of being a serial attendee.
So, why Startup Grind?
Upon
researching the conference, itself, we were able to find a enormous amount of
information about the people who attended and the people who run it. We loved
their "make friends, not contacts" slogan and general openness about
what they do and who they help. Startup Grind has tons of chapters all around
the world that focus on helping and mentoring startup companies. Their global
conference seemed to have a very
selective process and chose to feature just a small number of startups.
Those startups would be in the spotlight and given perks and recognition. It's
the only conference that we found that limited their selections to a small
number.
In
2017, they featured just 50 startups (with just 20 of those getting to give a
quickfire pitch) and increased that in 2018 to 100 (with a top 50 getting additional
perks including getting to give a quickfire pitch).
Where we Are now?
We
are now in Redwood City. Redwood City is a San Francisco Bay Area
community located in the Silicon Valley, also known as the technology-rich
region. These days, we find many startup companies there. One of the most
popular companies is the Oracle Corporation which is the computer technology
cooperation. Also, around where we are staying, we find Stanford University,
Apple Inc. and many places which are popular among startup companies.
B8ta:
We
visited B8ta this afternoon after our kick off meeting, the goal is to get
innovative products like the Gi Ginike, a folding electric bicycle, , a
wearable for achieving mindfulness and boosting energy, into physical stores
and enable people to have real, tactile experiences with them. Some of the most
popular products include Wi-Fi router Eero, smart locks by August
DIY robots.
We
will keep posted our update in everyday. We will have quick fire pitch tomorrow and VIP night .
